My Readings

So I got the Freshwater Master Test Kit and these are my readings:

pH - 7.4 (Has been kept steady since I started the tank, no worries there)
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 1.0 ppm (Should I be worried? )
Nitrate - 0 ppm

The only irregular readings out of these is the nitrite. Should I be worried about it? I believe my tank is cycled now, as I have had it for just about 6 weeks and the readings have leveled out, except for the nitrite. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: My Readings

Your tank is not cycled yet (it almost is). When nitrite reaches 0, then it will be finally cycled. Ammonia and nitrite need to be 0 in order for a tank to be safe for fish. When nitrite is at 0, start adding fish gradually to your tank, like 1-2 small fish at a time (1-2 fish every week or two). Do this until you reach the desired level of stocking (of course do not overstock!).

P.S. I presume the tank is small (hence I say add "small fish").

Re: My Readings

If the nitrite gets any higher, you will need to do a water change. Besides you ammonia and nitrite needing to be at zero for a cycled tank, you should have nitrates.
