old tank laying around.. safe to use?

I had a beta last year, it got a disease and died. I took everything out of the tank, emptied the tank and it has sat all this time dry. is it safe to use for fish or is there something i should do just in case or what?

thanks

If anything, just wash the tank as you would any other tank

Anything that was in that tank should be dead. There is a small possibility, however, that bacteria or parasites have survived in a spore form, and if you're really concerned, you can wash the tank out with a bleach/water solution (regular bleach, no scents), and then rinse it with a dechlorinator/water solution. The bleach will kill the spores, and the dechlorinator will kill the bleach.

Spores can be very difficult to kill (I've been pulling my hair out at work about them the past few months, stupid thermophilic obligate anaerobes). A good spore killer I have found from my hours of research is Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). It dissovles the spore coat and then any cleaner you might use will kill the spore. I dont think the fish would be bothers if you even just rinsed the H202 out and let it dry, that should be enough to dissolve/dissociate the H2O2.

I'd probably rinse it out in the tub really good with hot water, then clean it like SDS suggested.
