Do water changes put the "bad stuff" right back in?

I have a 50 ga, presently cycling. Bear with me, new to this. When you do water changes, does that put the ammonia right back in. Don't quite understand. thanks

No, ammonia does not come from the water, it comes from fish waste and/or other various decaying particles in your tank.
Under normal circumstances, you shouldn't have to change the water while your tank is cycling.

Good luck and have fun!

Nope it doesn't it takes all the ichy stuff(fish waste) out and puts fresh clean water back into the tank. So you are cycling with fish from the looks of it that would mean daily water changes 50% until your tank cycles. It can take some time to run a full cycle do you have a test kit? API masters are the best, i would recommended it so you can check your levels for the safety of the fish.

In case you're wondering, when I said "Under normal circumstances," I meant without fish, algae problems, or anything else that could cause a complication.

If you are cycling with fish, try not to do it in the future. It usually results in losing fish anyway.

The only bad stuff being put into the tank during a water change would be chlorine/chloramines, if I recall correctly, but that is easilly taken care of by water conditioners such as prime.
