| 2 tank questions. Hi! I just bought a 29g tank on craigslist.com
What is the easiest and most effective way to clean it?
Also, What is the cheapest way to quarantine 10 bettas at once? |

| You can rinse it with water and use vinager to clean any hard water deposits. A betta needs its own seperate 3-5 gallon tank to be quarantined, so there is not really a cheap way that I can suggest since they need a filter and a heater. |

| I have a betta that does not have a filter.. I just do frequent water changes and he lives happily in a 2.5g |

| If he doesn't have a filter you will need to do daily 100 percent water changes. If not, he will likely not live for very long. Bettas need the same care (if not more) than other tropical fish. |

| I do 50% WC every other day. He has been fine and healthy. Hasn't been sick. Anyways, I just need the CHEAPEST way to quarantine 10 bettas. no matter the amount of work. I am willing to do 100% WC during the quarantine I just need something cheap |

| If you can get some 1 gallon plastic/glass jars, and kept them in a heated area with water between 78-80 degrees and did 100 percent water changes daily they might be okey. Where are you planning on putting them after the quarantine? |

| This thread worries me. You've been advised in another thread that your betta needs a heated filtered tank.
Just the thought of 10 pretty betta girls in little 1g jars is disturbing, even if it is just for quarantine purposes.
If you're going to try a sorority tank, you're going to need more heated, filtered tanks ready in case there is any signs of aggression. |

| If I quarantine each betta for 3 weeks. What size tank would good?
EDIT: Lucy I am not going to buy 10 5g tanks with filters and heaters. Although I do plan on getting a few in case of aggression. But I need a way to quarantine them before they go in the big tank. Heaters I understand, but i don't believe they need filters, so long as I am doing necessary WCs. I try to keep an open mind though and sorry if I ever come off as rude Last edited by Suave; July 16th, 2008 at 07:50 AM.

| Just a guess, but 2-3g I'd say.
You could check out those plastic critter keeps, they're fairly inexpensive.
Petsmart has a medium one that runs about $11.00, it's about 3g's. I understand you'd be doing daily water changes, but you'd still need to keep their water close to 80F |

| The heating really isn't a problem for me. the two tanks i have now stay in the 78-80 range all day. only one has a heater, both have thermometers. the one heater that i have is NEVER on, it's like a magical room.. |

| Wish I had a magical room, my husband keeps this house cold, in my opinion, not his. lol
If you got the 3g critter keeper for quarantining, that would also give you something to put them in, in case you have to separate them quickly. |

| Honestly, it may just be better for your betta girls to just put them straight into the main tank. When you quarantine a fish, you should be keeping them in another tank that is fully set up and functioning. Otherwise, you may cause healthy bettas to contract a disease from inpropper living conditions. I know that quarantining fish is the usually the best way to go, but if you don't have another tank set up for each of them, you may be risking their health. |

| Also, 100% water changes are generally frowned on, are they not? One 50% and then another 50% perhaps, but one 100% change? I defer to those with more experience, but thought I'd at least mention it. |

| 29 gal wont be enough for 10 gals ..if they even get along later in life.....they are territorial and even tho they might get along now, they wont as they grow and try to make their own areas of the tank....and there wont be any room for them to get away from one another...
a living betta in a tank without filtration isnt necessarily a happy betta...when you get time, read this great thread...it really is totally true at how much more personality and fun they can be http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/be...rsonality.html |
