| | Fish Addict | Fish dies and comes back to life! Something like that. Of course, it probably wasn't ever completely dead. Anyways, so some of you know that i have a ten gal. with a swordtail and a gourami that has been bullying the swordtail. Last night i came home from the pool and couldn't find the swordtail. I looked everywhere and she wasn't in the tank. So i started looking behind the tank. There she was. Stuck on the back of the shoebox that I kept my fish supplies in. I thought she was dead. i was about to get rid of her when I saw a fin move. So I filled up a container with dechlorinated water and put her in. She laid on the bottom. And then her fins started moving. And then her mouth. She gradually started coming back to life. We left in there overnight to see if she would live untill morning. I woke up this morning and there she was. She had her dorsal fin up and everything. I suspect she jumped out the opening where the filter was. Probably because the gourami was bullying her. I'm worried the that this could have weakend her immune system. Or damaged her slim coat. I'm going out to get a tank today. I'm planning on draining half the water out of the main tank and putting it in the new tank. I'll also add some of the decorations from the main tank. Could i put her in right away if i monitored the water parameters and did frequent water changes? I was also planning on buing some supplies such as vita chem or fish protector to help strengthen my fish. Can't stress coat help too. How? Do i just put extra water conditioner in? Thanks. I'll add some pictures soon. |

| | Moderator | Wow, way to go little sword tail, tough little gal.
You can cut a peice of your used filter media and add it to the new filter too, that should give you a jump start, and as you said, watch your water and do frequent changes.
Being that she's bullied, I'd put her in the new tank right away too.
While you're out pick up some prime, it'll help neutralize some of the ammonia.
What size tank are you going to get? |

| | Fish Keeper | Hi Red Wag Platy:
I would put her in a breeder net, inside the allready cycled 10gal, removing some water to simulate shallow water level, and make sure she gets dissolved oxygen -maybe placing an airstone/diffusor inside the net, she might make it. There could be toxic levels of ammonia in the water she's been in since last night. I would add whatever could protect her (like Stress-Coat).
Of course, no matter what, get another tank... and then another... and another...
Good luck, keep us posted. Hope she makes it

| | Moderator | Garlic helps their immune system, you can add drops right to the water like Awesome suggested.
You can cut tiny bits of garlic to feed her, the smell might stimulate her appetite. |

| | Fish Addict | You can either soak food in the juice, add a few drops to the water and in come cases I believe fish will actually eat bits of garlic. It helps their immunity as well as most fish find it irresistible. |

| | Fish Addict | I tried it and she didn't eat it. I don't think she can eat at this point. She's dying. If i would have done more last night I think she wouldn't be dying right now. |

| | Moderator | Don't be so hard on yourself, her fins had been up at one point and you've been trying everything you can to help her. |

| | Fish Bum | Hmmm did you try adding the juices directly to the water with an eyedropper or somthing of the like? Even if she cant eat she may get some of the help?? |

| | Moderator | that sounds just like my rafikki!! he was in a bowl on the table while I was cleaning his tank...I ran to the bathroom and came back to find he had jumped out of the bowl, flopped across the kitchen table, onto the floor, and flopped another foot on the floor, to find him being licked by our chi puppy and covered in dog hair..he had ZERO finnage and was all black...he since has recovered but OMG lemme tell ya it freaked me out...and I agree the garlic juice n pieces, as well as vita chem and fish protector as well as stress coat daily, brought him back from death...goodluck! |

| | Fish Addict | She died. At least she's not suffering anymore. Now i just have that gourami in the 10 gal. I don't want him to have the whole thing to himself. Maybe I'll divide it and can finally get a betta. |
