moving a 150 gallon - filter question

We just had to empty my husbands 150 gallon tank at work (it was an unexpected but necessary move) and we plan to move it to our home. We transfered our fish to our local fish guy for a couple of days while we reset up this enormous tank. My question - I haven't cleaned the filter out yet - is there anyway I can store this for 2-4 days to keep alive the healthy bacteria that is in there? It's also been out of water for a couple of hours so far so I may be too late already. I do have it in a bag tho. anybody got any ideas?

If it is still wet I THINK you could keep it in treated water and "feed" it with a little fish food to keep the bacteria up while you are getting the tank set back up. I am sure that someone with more experience will come along soon to tell you for sure, though.

yes keep it wet with treated tap water and feed it like mrsmuffin said...you may hit a mini cycle, but its better than a full blown one...wow a new huge tank for home!! lucky!!

thanx for help - I threw some treated water in a 10 gallon and hung filter system. I'll feed it and run it and hope for the best. As for new huge tank - we're excited but a little nervous. 150 GALLONS!!! that's a small pond!!! I'm also a bit worried about the fish transfer but we're keeping our fingers crossed for a good survival rate.

want this one - just kidding!
As for fishy population - I'm still getting to know the new guys - there's a gold gourami, a blue gourami with many spots (I don't think he's the standard ones you see a fish stores), a pictus catfish, a bala shark, one other catfish, (2) 5"-7" red-tail tinfoil barbs (there are 2 kinds of these one grows huge and the other not so much - we have the not so much ones), a parrot fish (bought before he knew they were man made- he's an odd fish but very sweet), an angel fish, a silver dollar fish, 2 giant danios (3") a large goldfish, and a knife fish. I think there are a couple more but I can't remember what.
I think the transfer was very traumatic so it's anyones guess who will survive.

well goodluck and if you can get some stress coat, garlic guard (or some fresh garlic in the jar with its juices) and some vita chem, adding it daily for a few days, will help them and maybe ease some stress related diseases ...are you going to add more after it settles? I know pictus are amazing in pairs or more..fun as heck to watch also...only thing I worry about is all your fish are tropicals but the goldie who likes cooler temps.....and bala's like to be in pairs or more but they get pretty big...such a great array of fish for sure

Yes it is an odd collection - my husband randomly chose without knowing alot about the individual fish. He's obviously very lucky because other than a Pacu incident a couple of months ago everyone does well together. The goldfish is the first fish he bought for the tank and is now about 6" This fish is quite the survivor (I think it has something to prove!)

Tell me exactly what I should do with the garlic thing - I've never heard of that (I am the "newbie")

well garlic is a great immune system fighter...I buy the garlic in the jars thats fresh, with its juice n all...I feed every other day garlic pieces to even my dogs as well as fish..and adding the juices to the tank water will help keep them nice n healthy also...CBC suggests a few drop a day and thats what ive been doing as well as feeding them their pieces..its great for them
