Good news, bad news, Good news

Last Friday I went to my favorite LFS and visited with the owner again about the angelfish. She assured me that she could show me how to keep them in my current stocking plan. I said "oh yes fish guru, show me the way". Well, I didn't say exactly that for fear of being thrown in a home somewhere, but I left with 2, a male and female, Koi anglefish. Got them home quickly, 'cuz this is Oklahoma in July, the heat is awful, and introduced them slowly to their new tankmates. They seemed shy and went into the plants, but after a bit the girl swam out and started following my finger around the tank...just like in the store. I was on top of the world. Just like any other normal Friday night the kids invited guests over and I went to fix dinner. This is where the nightmare begins. As I am standing at the sink doing dinner dishes, the children were playing rough in the living room. My daughter's boyfriend trips, hits the wall behind him, thereby knocking a picture off the wall, which then crashes into the filter box of my aquarium, breaks the box and sends water all over the electric outlet. Thank God it only blew a fuse. So, I had 2 brand new angelfish in an already stocked tank with no filtration...it's 8:45 at night and PetSmart closes at 9. I made it in 13 minutes (mini-van can move when it wants too ) got a new, better filter...used the old filter media to "feed" the box and have done 1 large water change the day after it happened and then a smaller change today, just to make sure. Everybody seems happy and healthy, the water tests are good, with the exception of the first day of the new filter operation. I did see nitrites rise a bit then. So now I finally have my angelfish that I fell in love with over 30 years ago. I can honestly say that I have wanted them since I was 11, and it's a dream come true. They are beautiful.

Im glad you didn't loose your fish! I removed the pictures from the walls around my tanks. I am lucky w/ 2 rough boys that my tanks are still there, but they love the fish and actually respect the tanks.

Its always a good thing to get a better filter, no matter what reason. At least it wasn't the tank that got busted.

Shawnie, thanks a lot. I'd love to get some pics posted soon. Believe it or not I don't have a digital camera anymore, daughter had an accident with it. I have 5 kids, oldest in college and 4 others still at home, EVERYTHING ends up broke at some point. I am technologically illerate so operating a scanner is still beyond me. Hopefully I'll see my oldest soon and get to borrow her camera, then I can get her to show me how to post the pics, LOL!!!

Thanks a lot steveangela1. The funny thing about the filter was that I just had a conversation earlier that morning with my husband and told him I thought it would be a good idea to get a better filter for that tank. I didn't get one when I was out that day because I figured the old one would be ok for another week or 2, and I pinch pennys so hard I make dimes scream for mercy. Guess it was just meant to be that way. I have decided to avoid future heart failures I'm gonna move the tank to a less active corner this evening, and I am in the process of setting up my little fish watching nook away from rowdy teens.

Wow, a nightmare come true; how lucky that it was just the filter that broke! I'm so glad your fishies made it.

Koi angelfish are just beautiful; I covet them myself -- congratulations!
