Upgrading to Larger Tank

I can't wait to get that 40g acrylic tank that I saw on PetSmart.com! They have the perfect stand at the local store. (I go too often.) At one fish inch per gallon, my 10g community is nearly full now, and they've growing to do. (I had 2 corys with my Cichlid in the 20g, but she was nipping their dorsal fins and one's tail fin so I removed them to the 10g community where they're safe. She only assaulted them in secret; I never saw her approach one.) When I move this community I intend to take all their gravel & decorations with them, at least in the beginning. Basically I plan to put the entire contents of the little tank into a bigger one & add more water (& gravel, & an appropriate bio-wheel filter). Doing that, will I need to put the new tank through a fishless cycle first or should we be ok?

if you can, still do it fishless...also putting some sponges or filter media into the filter now, will seed it even better for the new tank...although the gravel and decorations will hlep it along...doing it fishless means less work on daily water changes..goodluck! cant wait to see the new tank!!!!

I agree, you can do it and the more sponges you can put in your current tank (in the filter box or sponge filters in the tank), the better.

Use Prime on all your water, do daily 25% water changes and it shouldn't take long to cycle the new tank.. maybe just a day or 2.
