Oscars

That is a clown knife fish, his name is Slim. They grow to 40-50 cm in length. They have formed an unusual bond cause the knife fish usualy is a loner and doesn't feel much for other fish.

Thanx. I think they look so good cause they eat so good. I feed them live fish more often than flakes, they also eat alot of frozen blood worms.
I will add more pics as soon as I can. I got all my fish when they were about the size of a full grown guppy. My oscar is about 15cm long and Slim is about 20cm long. Slim is really a cool fish cause when he was just a baby he was coverd in stripes and not spots. The spots developed as he got bigger. Pretty cool huh..

cool and very personable...I love the knife fish..hes just striking as well...just make sure the feeders you feed them, come from clean tanks and dont have diseases..oscars are prone to hole in the head disease and its awful...

It starts out with small sores on the fishes head...they grow larger and eventually its almost like a deep hole you can see thru the fish..some causes are bad water quality, stress, and bad feeders....mine got it about 4 years or so ago from feeding feeders from the LFS..so since then, I dont feed them because I have no way to breed my own...which is super! if you can do it

What would be the cure for that desease, so I can add it to my first aid kit. Better to be safe than sorry i always say. Did your fish survive??

Charmaine: The Hole In The Head (HITH) seems due to poor water conditions and poor feeding, as far as I know if you keep those two in check, no problems. I'm newby in Oscar fishkeeping (5" young Tiguer Oscar).
Where are your pics? Can't see them in this thread.

The pics are there. Did you click on the camera? Don't know why you can't see them.
But like I said previously, I breed my own feeder fish. So far my oscar is healthy and very energetic. Where are your pics, would love to see them!! Thanx for the info, you can never know too much about fish!!!

You are all going to laugh at me (be my guest I'm the first one laughing!).
I had no idea what the camera icon use was, until now -Thanks Charmaine!. So I figure how many pics I've been missing so far! ROFL
What a nice bunch of big guys! Never saw a knife fish like yours before. The pic I like most is FISH, they seem to prepare to pose for the camera, one on top of the other with the catfish lifting his barble up like "watch your step big guy!" LOL
Thanks again

Sure I will. Being part of fishlore has been an enriching experience, not only for the valuable info, but for the good-vibe sharing around here, in times of distress and dispair (my experience), but also in joyful moments. All kind of stuff goes around here, -e.g. eating your fish? drinking your tank's water? experiment or stupidity... to name a few of threads from recent memory. I am grateful for all of you, and, of course, our fishes.

Thank you Charmaine.

No problem. It's great making new friends even if you can,t see them. Yes I have also read some pretty amazing threads. But remember, no matter how stupid the question may seem, never be afraid to ask that stupid question. You never know, It could just save your fish's life and you will learn something new!!
