Number of fish in tank question

Another question from a newbie. When estimating the carrying capacity of your tank does it make any sense to think that three 1.3in neons would produce less waste than say one 4 inch fish that has far more bulk than the neons combined? Just trying to figure out the long term plan for my new 29 gallon tank while it's cycling. I'm planning a peaceful community tank and would rather have more smaller fish than fewer large ones. Thanks in advance.

Re: Number of fish in tank question

Just use the general 1" of fish/gallon rule and you should be fine....Just remember to calculate your capacity based on the adult size of the fish, not the immature size......

It is safe to say that larger fish would require more water because of fish mass, but you'd drive yourself crazy figuring that stuff out...Common sense should prevail and you should be somewhat prepared to go over that 1" rule if you take potential breeding into account.....
