worms

Hello Fishlore people. I'm not sure if this thread belongs here, but, this is my question. Today, I noticed a tiny, thin, white worm crawling up the wall of my tank. Is there any thoughts what this might be? Will it make the fish sick, or are they already sick and I haven't noticed it yet?

Hello there, not sure I ever welcomed you to FishLore yet?
I have read other topics on these tank worms, but not sure where they are. I have not had any experience with them, but hopefully someone will come along and give you a hand on that...
If I can find the threads on this problem, I will post them here with a link for you.

Those sound like Planaria. They often show up in tanks if there's a little overfeeding of the fish. They're not harmful to the fish and sometimes fish will eat them, but we try to keep them to a minimum. A turkey baster is a good way to suck the little buggers out.

Hi mrs bigeddi
As co said , I would guess planaria too. A good gravel vac with and a couple of water changes should see them reduce in numbers.

I like the turkey baster idea. I'll have to pick a new one up next time I'm out and about. I have done a water change and I haven't seen any since then.

New question about the gravel vac. When I clean, should I just go over the bottom of the tank with the vac or should I move the gravel and clean to the bottom, going through everything? Can you tell me how you do your tanks?

I had the worms in my 10 gallon when it was cycling but they dissapeared shortly after I added my cories so I assume the fish ate them. They were kind of gross to look at but didn't seem to bother the fish at all.

As for the gravel vac, I push the vacuum into the gravel and sift through all of it. I especially have to do this in my goldfish tank since they're messy little buggers.
