killer pictus cat

ok now im really mad at Elvis my pictus cat. He is 5 inches of terror. I've had him almost 5 years now. Moved him from my daughters tank to my 26 gallon long tank. Couple of years ago he at 11 fish (small size at about 1 inch) and 2 frogs. So these past two years he has been with larger fish with no problems. One week ago he ate a swordtail that was 3 inches , he belly was soooo swollen I didn't think Elvis would make it. But of course he did !!! I've had this other beutiful sword that I raised from a fry for 2 years, the male sword was well over 3 1/2 inches not including the sword tail. This morning Elvis belly is super swollen , no orange male sword and then to everyone horror (myself and three kids) the sword's tail is sticking out of his mouth!!! How in the world did he swollow such a large fish

unfortunately i don't have anywhere to put another tank. We live in a small town, so i go into Canada to get my fish (there is only two pet stores there). i dont think they would take Elvis for me. With him now is 7 large tiger barbs , i don't think he would try to get them, but then again i would have never guessed he would eat large sized swordtails and he had not eaten any other fish for such a long time.

Oh, that must have been terrible to see. Elvis doesn't play well with others. I'm so sorry you lost your fish.

I don't know the size of your tank, or how big your fish are, but maybe provide a lot more hiding places.

Is a tank divider an option? He does sound like a fish that will eat anything he can get in his mouth. I'm sorry you lost your swords to him. I'd guess they were dead before he ate them and he didn't eat them all at once.
