Dazed and Confused

Okay, what I thought I had was a female orange molly. But....after walking into a local Petco store I saw a picture of a fish that looked just like her, except it was a Sunset Platy. Tonight I got to looking at her again real close and comparing her to the black Molly I have. I noticed that she didn't have the longer dorsal fin on top like the black molly. As a matter of fact, she looks suspiciously like the baby platy I have tho not related. I Think I Have Another Female Platy!! And she is the color of sunset like the picture in Petco.

Now that I have that straightened out, I wanted to ask about something else I noticed about her. I noticed her gills have turned a darker orange or maybe even red color. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I'm pretty sure it's not ammonia poisoning because the ammonia readings are always 0 and I change the water frequently and religiously. Also, the male guppy is still chasing her around. I thought that guppy's would mate with molly's but not platy's.

Can anyone help me with this??

Could this be a symptom of pregnancy?

Re: Dazed and Confused

Well, I'm not sure about the gills. I think someone else on here has made the same observation about a Platy...
anyway, I think Guppies will mate with Platys.

Re: Dazed and Confused

I think the little bugger may have knocked up both my platy's. The baby has sure gotten fat. But surely she can't be big enough to have babies.

Livebearers can have babies at 4-6 weeks.
