Oh My God!

I went and got 4 neon tetras yesterday and found only 3 when I placed them into the tank!?!?!?!...i'm sure I counted four in the bus home.......I checked the bag thoroughly incase one got stuck.....I've checked my filter box today as it was due for a clean not in there!.....could it have been eaten? ..........another thing....yesterday I noticed 2 little babies that I don't even know where it came form!...and guess what?...I noticed another 2!...there were four all together.......surely they couldn't have been from my fish because a made sure before i got any of my fish that they were all of the same genderfrom the same type........could it have accidently come into the bag from the pet shop yesterday.....? I don't know........they are so small (0.5cm).....so fast!.......they are see-thru kinda grey...shows no colour....my betta tries to chase one or two but cheez they are so fast!...even faster than my danio's....how do I recognise them.....feed them any special food.....I don't even have an extra tank so I know that they will be safe from the other fishes...but I don't think they will get caught coz they are like thunder fast.......I really need help here.....

Re: Oh My God!

Buy a breeder net and grind up flakes really small or buy fry food. They are probably from your mollies. The tetra may "resurface" - he could be in hiding or just out of sight. I've lost fish for a few days

Re: Oh My God!

Don't buy a breeder net, buy a breeder box. A breeder net is a net that hangs on your tank but gets in it really fast and is hard to clean. A breeder box is a floating plastic box that has holes on its side, or bottom small enough that fry can't swim out. All you have to do is wipe it down and it's clean again, so much easier and cheaper too.

Re: Oh My God!

Well, it helps keep them separated. It's a small box that goes inside of your tank.

It may be hard to feed them if they are roaming about your tank - they can only eat ground up flake food to start. They are very young if they are half a centimeter long.

Breeder boxes are more expensive and it's really opinion on which to get. Both are easy to clean - just use a piece of airline tubing as a siphon. Breeder boxes are see-through, so you can see the fish better, but they do cost more and are a little smaller.

Re: Oh My God!

No I meant that junk gets stuck in the holes of breeder nets and are really hard to clean it out. By me breeder nets cost 4.99$ and for 5.75$ you can get a breeder box that is even bigger, and with breeder boxes plecos and otos like to eat the algae off them, it's a personal choice.

Re: Oh My God!

If you have lots of hiding places in your tank the babies should be fine. Along with the little bit(don't over feed) of crushed flake the babies will eat stuff on the substrate, off the walls of the tank and if you have plants will eat stuff growing on the plants. By "stuff" I mean microscopic critters that naturally grow in tanks. Good Luck and keep us posted.
