chasing danio

I have had two longfin danios in my tank for a couple of months, and when I first got them, one spent a lot of time chasing the other. After a while it settled down a bit, but when I got chance - yesterday, I added a couple more danios, thinking that being in a small shoal might help. The two new danios are leopard danios. I got some marble hatchets at the same time. now the longfin is showing the old chasing behaviour, mostly to the other danio, especially one of the new ones, but also to the marble hatchet fish, which are moving about the tank now. One of my tetra has taken to lurking in hidey holes around the tank, nervous of this behaviour. Do I wait to see if this settles, or should I be removing the culprit?

I also have two long fin zebra danios in my tank and mine tend to chase each other and even some other fish in the tank (including one of the tiger barbs). I'm no expert but I think that they might just be a chasing kind of fish. I have never seen one of mine nip another fish, so I think it is ok. But if yours is a nipper my might have a problem.

thanks for the response

Yes, you could be right. It isn't nipping as far as i can see but I'm a bit concerned that it's stressing the other fish.

Welcome to Fishlore.

The danios tend to do better in a group of 6 or more, but can be nippy little buggers. The tank is a bit overstocked and that might be making the stress to the other fish greater.
