Schooling Fish Question

I've been told schooling fish do better in odd numbers? Is this true? If so, why?

it may be true with a very small school (like 3), but if you're talking about an actual school of 10+... i wouldn't think it would matter quite as much. i've heard that said for aesthetic reasons as well though - just like a florist arranges flowers with odd numbers, often times.

it has been said that they do better in odd numbers because in groups they tend to "bicker".. when having odd numbers, 1 of the fish always has a chance to take a breather away from the pecking order fighting...

i personally believe that when it comes to schooling fish and having larger numbers it doesnt matter if there is an odd or even number. they will all pick on one another and thats just the way it is. but of course that is just my opinion.

Once I was told to keep them in 3s. 3 6 9 12 and so on. Its never really been a problem with me though.

I think it matters mainly if you're looking at a choice between 2 or 3 since 2 leads to a 1-sided pecking order.
