I'm so very horrible with naming fish... My mollies are Oreo and Cookie, cause they're black and white. If i had a killiefish, I'd probably end up naming it Killer or Spot or something. See, told you I was bad with fish names. HAHA

Anywho, nice pictures of Icarus.

lol ty. I talked to the freshwater handler at the fish store, (the one I don't really trust too much.) and I talked to him about Melafix. He said that all of the betas that they have go through tea tree oil baths before they put them in there cups, and he also said, back when they didn't use it, that they lost a LOT more betas. and now that they do use it they lose hardly any. then again, this is the fish store. he said if I wanted I could bring it back and change it out or get my money back, but he couldn't recommend anything else because they don't USE anything else.

He said that as far as overdoses go, you can overdose a fish on anything, so just make sure that you use it correctly. and he gave me certain instructions which I have written down somewhere.. he said i think... to put x amount of drops into a little cup he gave me, with tank water in it, and shake it up really good to activate it, then pour it into the tank. I don't remember how many drops he told me to put in though =\, but again it's written down somewhere lol.

As far as water conditioner goes, I got API stress coat, on the bottle it says,

fish and tap water conditioner
Replaces slime coat
Reduces electrolyte loss
Removes chlorine and chloramines.

Any feedback?

ALSO!!!! after I get that 12-15 gallon tank from my friend, I already have a plan!

In my Community tank I will keep my

Mollies
Killifish
Neons
Rummynoses
and add
3 Marble Hatchets. I saw them at the store, they are awesome!

and in my little beta tank, I will have

my Beta, (of course lol)
my 2 cory catfish
and add
2 Panda Cory's.

then ill be maxed on everything woot woot.

ANY FEEDBACK on the way marble hatchets and panda cory's act, there specific needs, personal stories etc, would be well appreciated. I'll check out the info they have here on the site, but still personal info on these fishies would be excellent.

IT WAS SO SAD! for me at least, I looked in the tank at the marble hatchets, there were three, and a dead one floating on its side at the top of the tank, and the catfish were upsidedown eating it =(

Tea tree oil baths? I've never heard of this... Why on earth would they do that?? (Well, i presume it's because it's an antibacterial thing, but they don't know that it harms bettas.) I've heard of using Indian Almond Oil with bettas, but not tea tree oil. I don't think I'd like to hear that from a store I bought my bettas from. Seems to me that if you don't trust the guy too much, I wouldn't take what he's saying with a grain of salt.

Panda cories are adorable. (In my own opinion, but i'm biased!) They're small and not tremendously active, like albino cories, but darn cute.

I've heard that marble hatchets are sensitive, they're also schooling fish. 6 or more hatchets.

Hi!

Please, either take your marbles back to the LFS or get enough to make at least six. They are extremely sensitive fish when not kept in schools, they get their difficult to keep reputation from people attempting to keep them in small numbers. They get stressed you see, and they are especially prone to whitespot disease, so it only needs a stressed hatchet to bring the tank into turmoil. In schools, they don't get stressed and are really easy and hardy to keep, and are much more fun to watch. They also possess the capability to jump to around 2M in the air when stressed - and you know throwing them against the wall is a method of euthanaisia. So, water change time, hatchets get scared, extra stress from no school, they leap, hit the ceiling and probably perish. This is 1 fish you cannot afford to neglect it's schooling habit, or disaster will surely strike. Also, it is undecided as to how big they get, some say 2", some say " so there is an obvious difficulty. Don't get them, you'd need a school and a school would overstock you.
