What kind of fish???? Please Advise

Hello!!!

I am still cycling my tank at the moment and I have 2 red tail rasboras and 1 long fin rosy barb.
I purchased Biospira and I heard my tank should be ready in a week or so to introduce new fish into my tank.
How many fish at a time can I put in once the cycle is done

Also what other kind of fish can I put in my tank

I have a 75gallon freshwater tank.

I had tiger barbs before but they all died because of the cycle so now I will put some back in the tank but what other nice colorful fish can I put in my tank?
Can I put some neon tetras in the tank too

Please Advice.

Thanks!!!

From everything I've read, and what the longtime folks here on the forums have said to me and others, 2-3 at a time is generally the rule of thumb - 2-3 weeks a part. Also, you will want to quarantine any new fish for anywhere from 2-4 weeks prior to adding them to the main tank.

If there are no current fish in the tank, then introducing the new fish is no issue.

Hi!

You need to keep Red tailed rasboras and rosy barbs in schools of 6 or more. When the cycle is finished - bump up the schools to 6. That would leave you with 44" of fish. Get 8 Tiger barbs and 10 neons and your done.

If you put enough BioSpira for 75g in the tank, you can add fish now.

i thought it all depended on how much bacteria you had if you had a robust colony you can add more but obviously dont kick the back side out of it ....or am i wrong? ah that would be with a fishless cycle were you can add Ammonia i'll get me coat

The point of BioSpira is to fill the filters with the right amount of bacteria (or more). So if you dose a tank for 75g, you can fill it with 75" of average-sized fish. The BioSpira will be the right amount. However, if you wait too long, the colonies will start thinning out as ammonia becomes scarce. Then you've got to do things the slow way.

If you definitely want Raspboras, Rosy Barbs, Tiger Barbs, and Neons, you can go with Hatchet's setup.
However, think hard about the Tiger Barbs. They have a tendency for being aggressive. (Keeping them in a school of 6 will mitigate this, but there's still the chance that they'll be mean to the rest of the tank mates). Another possibility that I have found go well with the rosy barbs (ok, I've got gold barbs, but they seem pretty similar) and should go well with the neons are glassfish. Wikipedia has them listed as Indian Glassy Fish. Petsmart is the only store in this area that carries them (unpainted. There are a couple of LFSs that carry the painted variety, which I won't buy). The sign says they require aquarium salt, but they don't. They're a bit touchy to keep alive, but I got four new ones two weeks ago and all are doing well. Once they get established, they're tough little buggers.

I would school your barbs and rasboras (so at least 6 of each) first of all. Then maybe add some Swordtails? I think they're neat looking fish, and if you do end up with some fry from the Barbs or Rasbora's, they'll do double duty as cleanup. If you do end up with the Swords, make sure you keep 2 females per male. Or a solitary male like I have, Cujp seems happy If you only get one female Sword, the male will most likely harass her, but having two will give them a better break. Alternatively, are you looking for more of a schooling fish? Danio's are hardy, flashy and really give your tank some action. Good luck,

Cory
