| After the disease... How do I sterilize my 39 gallon tank and all decor? I had a terrible ICH-turned-fungal infection occur. I cleaned, cycled, waited...added 2 platy's and they were infected the same way...How do I clean up the mess ? Thanks, LOB |

| Bugger about the tank mate, only one way to have it 100%. sorry but you need to strip it down, chuck your fliter media in the bin, drain the tank, get the gravel in a tub and fill it with 20% bleach 80% water and mix it well and let it stand for 1hr. now rinse in hot water, keep rinsing till all the bleach is gone, let it dry.
now the tank and ALL the equipment needs to be scrubbed with the 20% bleach mix and rinsed clean. you can use the tank as a tub and put all the stuff in it.
Just rinse every thing in hot water, let it dry and rinse it again. |

Ick is so simple. It dies in your tank if you keep it over 82F, for more than two weeks. The fungal problem is a secondary problem to the weakened stressed out fish that had a parasitic infestation. When you get the ick out, your tank will right itself.
IF on the other hand you do as Peterpiper suggests, you will be at ground 0 again with your cycle. All the problems associated with an uncycled tank, and your fish would be susceptible to everything all over again. Ick is present in most tanks ALL the time. The problem is that fish that are stressed will fall victim to attacks that they otherwise could live with. |

| Hey I was only answering the Q " How do I sterilize my 39 gallon tank and all decor? ' if it was just ick, yar, you cook it. "Ick is present in most tanks ALL the time" Don't agree, if you QT, and do thing right. Got a mate that dropped his tank, 180g, runs a QT now and no problems for 2 years now. take shortcuts and pay the price. If something gets in your tank... remember... you let it! |

| My little goldfish had fugus. All I did was treat him with meds, 50% water change after teh fugus was gone, rinse all the decor in tap water. |
