Please help!!!! Missing fish!!! =(

I did a through search of my tank today after being gone for the whole day and yesterday evening after coming home to find my White Clouds were a deathly white. Immediately I turned on the lights and checked my water levels to find the following:

nitrate: 20
nitrite: 0
hardness: slightly above 75
alkalinity: 40
pH: 6.8

After their "black spot" on their tails returned, and after I saw their coloration in their skin return to normal (reasons why idk), I calmed down.. but I noticed soon after that I only had 3 of 4 White Clouds in the tank. I looked all over, including behind the filter and around the bubbles.. I also looked near the foliage.. everywhere..

I'm afraid that my Upside-down catfish ate him.. could that be?

I'm so worried.. please help

check around and behind the tank? If it isn't there, my guess is that the fish had died and then the cat fish got it. I have had similar problems like that, a fish dies and then you blink and there is nothing left of it, even the fiddler crabs are stuck poking around in the sand looking for anything left.

Well I never let my nitates above 10 so that could be a reason. Also some fish are afraid of the dark, See the betta thread. Have you checked in your filter? This sounds horrid but I have had fry sucked up the filter and Ive never had WCM but they might be small enough to be in there

I checked the filter and saw nothing, but I may re-check it.

I am assuming they are afraid of the dark, as they went back to being not sickly looking a mere minute after turning the lights back on.

This will suck if he is dead, which i am afraid is so =(

What was the ammonia?

I have had fish disappear. Once two platies got sucked up in the HOB filter....I noticed they were missing, had to actually take it all apart, and found only chunks!

Fish, snails, and shrimp all help clean up, when one of their buddies passes on......you may never know just what happened.

A water change is in order, and vacuuming, and this may turn something up.

Yeah i'll check in a little bit in the gravel. I don't want to freak them out too much...

The fish aliens sure love to take the fish. It's really a mystery, but we've had a few fish just disappear. I hope you find your upside-down cat though.

hehe it wasn't my cat that went missing, but was one of my white clouds..

speaking of which, my WC's are now in the 20gal tank, and i'll be moving my upside-down cat to this tank shortly =)

Probably on the planet with an Oto and handful of Platy fry that we've had disappear on us.
