Fish: 5 Cherry Barbs, 1 Gold Barb, 1 Mollie, 1 Adonis Pleco
3 days ago one of my Cherry Barbs went missing, I combed the tank looking for him, I figured he must have been eaten. Well i just got back from my brother in-laws and sure enough another Cherry barb was gone. After looking again all over i saw a cloudy like object at the bottom of one of my plants, sure enough after fishing around with my net it was a barb, fins completely pecked off, and slightly decomposing ( I guess he was the first to go). I looked some more and wedged at the base of a rock there was the other, he looked less damaged then the other barb.
What or who is killing my fish?
here's my latest water readings
pH: 7.5
nitrate: 5
PPM nitrite: 1 ppm
ammonia: .25 ppm
The water was treated with Prime to isolate and eliminate any toxic chemicals, and is changed and monitored regularly until numbers return to normal. No fish are showing any signs of stress and all seems well, It seems odd to me that 2 of them just die out of the blue.
The tank was set up about 3 weeks ago and treated with bio-spira to rush the nitro-cycle, when ever i add new fish i treat with bio-spira again to help create the bacteria load for the filter. I called the folks at Marineland and they said I was correct in doing so.
