I'm an inch to short

I did the measurements yesterday for the 55 gallon tank I am wanting to get. The tanks total length is 48 inches. My desk that it was going to go on is 47 inches. I am aware that water and gravel weighs a lot! And I do not wanna wake up one night to find that the desk crashed and all my fish are on the ground. I was wondering if it will be ok that I will be having a inch hanging off the side of my desk. I really hope it is because I really really want this 55 gallon aquarium.

I am not sure what kind of wood it is. It seems like it is a pretty hard wood however I would not be able to find out what kind of wood it is because it has a white plastic coating over it. It has 2 columns with a 6 inch diameter but its hallow. It also has a frame underneath it to help spread out the weight. I am most certain that it will support it. I just think having half an inch hanging off on both sides is kind of ugly. I wanna see if I can talk my parents into buying me a stand.

i was sorta in the same position as you were a few months back, basically myself and 2 friends weighing about 700 pounds total sat on the stand and made sure it held, i figured if it could hold 3 grown male humans it could handle 700 pounds of water and stuff.

The overhang won't be a problem. The main thing is does that desk have the necessary support in it to distribute the weight of around 550 pounds long-term. Check the supports in the desk, maybe post a picture for our DIY members to check.

LOL. I was just about to suggest posting a picture.

One thing you can do, providing that the desk CAN support the 550lbs, is get a piece of plywood about ¼" - ¾" thick and place that on top of the wooden desk, then place some polystyrene (the square tiles from say B&Q work fine) on it, then the tank. Make sure the overhang is equal all around the tank btw.

Main point is that the desk must be able to handle the weight.
