I have looked allover the stores and compared prices.....
on the stands does anyone have any experence w/ the oak stands from the pet supply plus stores? and the all glass setups? also how much filitration do we really need for a 55 gallon tank... we are going to let it cycle for a week or so before our first fish because our water at our home is hard water and we have to treat it, plus the bacteria we need to add....
I know we will need about a 100-150 watt heater, and good sized air pump...
any experienced suggestions?
I am going to get a couple blue rams, couple rainbow fish to get started when we do and a pleco. prob the 2 rams and pleco to start (only 3 at a time).

I havent had any exp. with aquarium stands....but i think they are all made about the same. I mean their sole purpose in life is to hold a aquarium, so i assume they work.

You will need approx. 10 times your aquarium capacity worth of filtration per hour. so 55 gal. = 550 gal per hour.

I would suggest a 200w heater. I just picked up a Visa-therm "stealth" heater for my 46g tonight and it is a 200w, it is rated for a 55g. I figured I needed the extra muscle for ambient temp. fluctuations. (ie room temp. fluct.)

you should wait to put the rams in because they are very sensitive to water parameters and should only be added to a well established aquarium.
