Re: What type of Tank

It depends on a "breeding tank" for what fish. I voted a tank for large mouth fish because there really is no such thing as a breeding tank for some fish (like Bettas). You need multiple tanks. One for the actual spawning and then a large tank for the fry when they begin to grow, and of course then you have to start seperating them. You should excuse me please but around here my thoughts generally don't go much beyond Bettas and Otos and I don't know of anyone breeding Otos in a tank. (they are usually harvested from the wild - the poor darlings) If you are considering other fish, the arrangement is probably quite different.

Re: What type of Tank

It depends on what you would breed. I have some mixed feelings on breeding. Livebearers, the easiest fish to breed, are often bought by people who know absolutely nothing about fish and stick them in a bowl/tiny tank and watch them die. They are already way overbred by whoever breeds to sell in fish stores, so I don't see the point in just making more of them. Then again, some of the rarer types of fish probably depend on being bred by hobbyists. What would you breed? Really though, you should get what you want.
