Progressing but still need help!

Ok heres the deal.. I set up my tank about a 2 weeks ago. I have only 2 goldfish and 2 plecos. When I first set up my tank it was really cloudy for a while until I bought a stress-zyme. It helped clear up my tank but its not as clear as the pet stores or as many of your tanks. I bought the Ph tester and amonia and my pH is fine but my amonia is wayyyyy to high. Now I did a 25 percent water change and cleaned the gravel. Can anyone help me get rid of the amonia and clear up my tank completely?...

I have an air pump, heater, filter. I have a stress coat to try to condition the water. I feed my fish the standard flakes -- shimp pelets and sometimes a algae disc...

I am very sorry for your fish.

Is there any way for you to get a larger tank?

At this point, since you didn't take the advice to take the fish back, the only chance they have to live is to get a much larger tank, and since they can not be housed together, that would have to be 2 much larger tanks. Period.

Have your tank already cycled? If not, then it is very important for you to understand and perform the cycle. It involves colonizing a bacterial culture in your tank that will eliminate dangerous ammonia and nitrite in your tank. In the Fishlore homepage, you will see the "Aquarium Nitrogen Cycle" under the Tropical Fish Beginners Guide. In that article you will understand the process. (I don't know how to post the link......hehe sorry)

About the cloudy tank............it's either caused from adding a lot of fish at a time or dust from your substrate(gravel or sand). If you add a lot of fish at once(the general guideline is to add one or two fishes at a time, then wait for 5 days before you can add another pair again), then your tank is performing a mini-cycle because the filter was "traumatized" because too much bioload is added at the same time..........If it didn't happen because of adding a lot of fish, then it is caused by the dust the gravel expelled when you added the water. Even if you rinse the gravel VERY thoroughly, there will still be dust in the water. It won't bother your fish and will settle down in a few days.

Good luck!

make sure that you are not over feeding either. that can cause the cloudy water also.

....

I understand that I have to get a larger tank and those are my intentions. The 2 plecos that I have are maybe and 2inches. Before I commit myself to having a bigger tank I need to figure how to maintain this small one. I am planning one or 2 of my fish but in the mean time I don't want to lose my fish. Thanks for everyone's reply! ... So the cause of my amonia being so high could be either too many fish? or overfeeding? .. is this correct?

you are using 3 different foods for 4 fish, i'm pretty sure you problem has something to do with over-feeding not sure though

Any uneaten algae wafers are being removed within 24 hours, right? The tank won't be cycled in 2 weeks, so that's part of the problem along with the waste output from 4 heavy waste producers.

You'll want to use Prime to treat the water and do 25% water changes every 2-3 days. Test with an API master FW kit before each water change.

What are the nitrite and nitrates readings?
