Guppies/Neons/Shrimp Temperature Range + Syphon?

I've got my son's 3 gallon aquarium up and cycling. I installed a small heater under the gravel figuring the water temperature without one would drop down to about 72 at night.

On average it seems like the temperature is around 75 the first thing in the morning and about 78 when I turn out the lights around 9 o'clock.

I tried using the heater and it seems like the temperature was up to about 82.5 after 7 or 8 hours with it on.

I'm considering Neons, Guppies, or Ghost Shrimp for my tank. Would all of those do well with the temperature ranging from 75 to 78?

Just trying to decide if I'll need the heater or not.

1 other thing: What's the smallest syphon available? A 12" (and I believe even 10") syphon is too big for the 3 gallon aquarium.

Thanks for your help.

well the key temp is 74 or 76 degrees F. with what you said, i wouldn't use the heater. You won't get any help from me when it comes to fish tecno... try asking the more advanced fishkeepers.( CObettacouple, tom, etc.) You could even ask your LFS.

I"m sure you'll over come these obsticles.

Peace

the temp of the water of native lands would drop during the night so I would be to worried. aslong as it stays above 74 you should be alright without the heater. Are you still considering overloading your little tank? I guess some people have to learn from their own mistakes
