Ok here is what I am thinking.

10gal tank

1)
2-3 guppies
2-3 platies
a school of tetras neon or a few rummy-nose.

2)
a pair(1 male+1 female) of Blue rams
5-6 neon tetras

3)
one male or a male+female pair of dwarf Gourami or honey Gourami if i can find them.
2-3 guppies

thanks and if you have ANY other idea that would work post them.

Your fish choices are fine but option 1 is way overstocked and option 2 is pushing it. Also on second thought I'm not sure it's a good idea to keep dwarf gouramis with gups...they can be aggressive and the guppies' fins could become a target. But I'm not positive on that, it might work fine.

i've tried to gouramis and guppies in the same 10G tank, didn't work. the gouramis won lol I kept 2 german rams in my 10G for a while with a catfish, that seemed to work out ok.

the german rams will grow to around 3-4" same with the gouramis and the platies, so keep that in mind when looking at the 1"/gallon

Option 1 would be good without the tetras. 3 guppies and 3 platies would equal about 10.5" so that's pretty close to the 10g bioload, particularly if you get all males.
