Colored Sand

I saw some colored sand in the bookstore and I thought it's pretty good. It's very fine and soft..................oh, my fish. Is colored sand a good substrate and is it safe?

Thanks and advance.

Depends -- what's the sand usually used for? Is it dyed, or naturally colored?

At the least, you should rinse it really well to clean it, and make sure that no color leaches out if it is dyed.

hmm.. good question. I agree with Joe and if you want to try that sand, I'd say get just a small amount of it, put it in a plastic container filled with water and see if there's any color leaching after a week.

Yea I agree with them to. Kind of like boiling driftwood....just let it sit in the water(NOT IN AQUARIUM.....in a bucket lol). See if any color comes out and dyes the water.

The best is the substance which comes from mother nature...So if it is natural then it should b alrt.
Otherwise u can check it by above given process.

Thanks ya'll

It's artificially colored

I'll boil it in water to make sure it won't leach anything to my precious fish.
