Keeping Freshwater Clams, Mussels, Bivalives

I was playing The Sims 2 Castaway and I suddenly found an interest on clams. Not that they're interesting, they look really, really tasty! Can you give me some info about these little fingerfoods; I mean, inverts! Then again,

THANKS
IN
ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen freshwater clams at my LFS; don't think there are freshwater mussels out there, though.

The only Marine Clams I know about require VERY high lighting and, I hear, can be hard to keep. They are also gorgeous and expensive so I don't think you'd want to eat them. I know absolutely nothing about any other kind of clam. I hear scallops aren't too bad to keep except that they can shoot around your tank by flapping their shells halves. Oysters are easier and they stay put. Personally I wouldn't try to raise my own seafood. I'm just skeptical of it because bad seafood can really make you ill. Plus a lot of the things you put in to a marine tank say "not for fish intended for human consumption".

There are two main problems with using such creatures in your tanks.

1) They are host to many parasites that attack fish.

2) If you do not notice immediately when they die, and since they are usually buried in the substrate this is easy to do, they can foul your tank to the point you lose fish.

Alive in aquarium = bad
