| New To The Fish World I was wondering if anyone could help me with finding some certain fish. Currently right now I have 4 red zebra danios, 3 fruit tetras, 3 cory fish, 1 pleco. I had some gold dust mollies but they sadly departed. Anyway, I was looking to purchase some more fish, but I am struggling with what to choose. I would like to get something very colorful; and maybe a little different.
I am only 16 so I do have a limited price range. But I am very interested in making this a hobby. If any of you persons could help it would be much appreciated. |

| What size tank are we helping to populate, and what is already populating that tank space now? |

| Do you know what kind of pleco it is? That could be a large determinant in how many fish you can have.
10g is probably going to be too small to add too many more. You don't want to overcrowd them. Welcome to the hobby! |

| Yes, if all the fish you mentioned in the initial post are in the 10 gallon tank, it is already overstocked and it would not be a good idea to add more to it. The general rule of thumb is to find out what the adult size is of your fish (even if they are not yet full grown) and compare it to your tank size so you do not exceed 1" per gallon. This would mean you have space in a 10 gallon tank for 10" of fish. Your zebra danios get up to 2" each, so you have 8" tied up right there. I am not familiar with fruit tetras, but most tetras are in the 2" range as well, giving you another 6" for a total of 14" of fish in a space big enough for only 10". That does not count the pleco, which in all honesty should not be kept in a 10 gallon tank at all. Standard plecos get VERY large, and will not have room to even turn around in such a small tank. |

| thank you for your knowledge.
i am searching for a larger tank. but i plan on building a base for it.
And I am certain that it is a Pleco BN. I work in the fish department at wal-mart. i take care of them. but i wish to learn more about them. And most peoples stereotypes on fish store salesman is true. THEY DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING.
I admit it.
But thats why signed up in these forums to learn more and expand my knowledge. Last edited by Jimmster; November 7th, 2007 at 07:50 PM.

I wonder what kind of Pleco you have and how large does it grow? How large do Fruit Tetras grow? |

| Well then your tank already is overstocked (not counting the Pleco). With the Pleco it is VERY overstocked! |
