hello i have a 3 gallon eclipse tank with nothing in it i wanted to house one Dwarf Gourami i know about the one inch per gallon rule the reason i am asking this is at walmart on their 2.5 gallon bow front , on the back of the box , they say you can add a Dwarf Gourami so i was wondering if i could house the Dwarf Gourami in my 3 gallon eclipse tank thank you

I'm not on expert on dwarf gouramis, but i would recommend against putting one in a 3 gallon tank. If you've noticed, some of the pictures on the boxes show like 6 or so fish in a 5 gallon tank... clearly that wouldn't work. They just put pictures that look good on the box so you'll be like "oh that looks good i'll do that" even if it means the fish suffer from it. This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't do it.

http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-DwarfGourami.htm - the gourami need some swimming room and 10g is recommended.. i think you could get away with 5g maybe, but in a 3g, it's likely to have a shorter lifespan and be less happy, colorful, active, etc.

plus in a 10g you could give the gourami some cory cat tankmates (or otos).

i wouldnt recommed a 3 gal. like CObettaCouple said a 10 gal will do very nicely

Just because it would be fine theororetically(?), it won't be fine in the real world. A dwarf gourami needs at least 10 gallons to be happy. The only thing that would be good for a 3 gallon is maybe a betta(with a heater and air stone(if you can't get a small enough filter)), an ADF, or some shrimp.

Three gallons isn't good for a fish like that, especially the dwarf gourami. They need to be kept happy and should have at least a ten gallon tank. They are not as easy to keep as fish like danios. They're still beginner fish, of course, but from my experience with them they're a bit more prone to stress and disease. For optimum health 10+ gallons is recommended.

You might want to consider a Betta fish. Given proper care and water changes, a single Betta can thrive in a three-gallon Eclipse tank! And one Betta can have lots and lots of personality! Good luck!
