What fish to put in a 10 gallon?

I currently have a 10 gallon tank with a filter, heater, light, and gravel. Nothing else, i really want to have live plants in this tank for the better of my fish. I want fish that arent really aggressive, I thought maybe a couple groups of tetras but am not sure now. I want colorful fish but i dont want them to get above 2". I am fine with cory cats, and most tetras as well since i already have a 29 with 5 Black Skirts, 5 Flame Tetras, 1 Oto, 2 Snails. Could i move the snails into there for the cycling of it, or move anything into there for the cycling. In my 29 gallon there are many fake plants, any fish i could move into the 10 to help cycle i will. As well as decorations? I do have a male betta but i dont want to risk losing him in the 10.

Look at the sparkling gourami on dfs, they are cheap, small, colourful and seem to fit the bill for you.

Platys would work, i'd get all males. if your 29g is cycled you can use some substrata from it and maybe a piece of the filter sponge to 'seed' the 10g tank's cycling.

I would cut a swatch from the filter media bag rather than the biomedia sponge. The media bags are easily replaced (and you'll need to do so immediately after this). Just cut a swatch large enough to fit in the 10g filter.

I think a dwarf guorami or two would be a good choice.

I'm afraid snails alone won't cycle your tank (though I may be wrong if you have a lot of snails).

Definitely use some material(s) from the cycled 30 g. tank to help cycling your empty 10 g. tank. Don't cycle it with fish - they can die due to ammonia and nitrite poisoning during the cycle. Use fish food to cycle your tank (or pure ammonia drops, or a fish fillet - form a food store - buried in your gravel). Once it's cycled, then start adding fish to it.

I also agree that it's best not to get fish that get over 2" in a 10 gallon tank. You could have one larger group of small tetras in that tank, or 2 smaller groups of some tetras. Example: either 10-12 Neon Tetras, or 5-6 Neon Tetras + 5-6 of some other tetras (or other peaceful fish) that are as small as Neons.

If you want some algae eater(s) in that tank too, you'll have to decrease the numbers of your fish to make room for the algae eater(s). But ... you could have a few snails in that tank. A 10 gallon tank is small, and a few snails should easily keep it clean. I have snails in my 10 gallon tank, and they keep it completely free of algae. Snails are great algae eaters.
