Other than fish, what other fresh water creatures can you have in an aquarium?

Im interested in what creatures I could check out that wont kill or be eaten by other fish as small as neon tetras and other small-medium placid fish.

Im aware of various shrimp eg. Crystal Shrimp, snails and some tropical eels, but other than that is there anything else that could happily live in an aquarium.

I know things like frogs and turtles dont work because they eat fish.

Thanks for any suggestions.

crayfish are fun but they do eat other slower fish. but ive had mine for a while now and aslong as you keep them well fed with sinking pellets or frozen krill then they dont bother fish atleast thats what mine is like.

"I know things like frogs and turtles don't work because they eat fish."

Not all frogs. Have you heard of African Dwarf frogs (ADFs)? The are water frogs (can't be out of the water) and are very passive with fish---in fact, most fish are aggressive to them. The don't have teeth, so they can't hurt your fish and/or shrimp. I have 2 and love them!! My ADFs are with neons and they do fine. They are fun to watch and easy to care for. Check out the amphibian section of FishLore or Google them.

GOOD LUCK,

-M
