You could keep the 2 species in one tank. Both are peaceful. Just remember both species are shoaling/schooling fish, so keep them in groups. What size is your tank? Do you already have any other fish in it? Remember not to overstock

its 10 gallon and there is no other fish then the tetra right now! I was going to add the guppies!

Well, shoaling/schooling fish do best in groups of at least 6 or so. But considering your tank is only 10 gallons, you can't have 6 fish of both species (a total of 12 fish).

Guppies adult size is about 2" (could be smaller or larger, depending on the sex and variety), and White Skirt Tetras adult size is also around 2". Assuming each of your fish will be 2" long when adult, you can have only 5 such fish in your 10 gallon tank (10 / 2 = 5). I guess you could add one more fish so that you'll have 2 groups of 3 fish: 3 White Skirt Tetras, and 3 Guppies. That is, if you really have to have these 2 species in one tank.

Did you consider having only one species in your tank? Ex. only Guppies or only White Skirt Tetras? This way, you could have 5 - 6 fish of one species, a much better solution since they'd be in a larger group. Did you ever consider any other (smaller) fish than Guppies and White Skirt Tetras for your 10 gallon tank?

sorry but my sister said she would take the tetras off my hands so now i can breed my guppys!!

Tetras can be terrible fin nippers remember so Guppy tails and tetras not the best combo but if your sister is taking them great!!

Wow, I didn't know that tetras could wear white shirts. lol But I agree with what the other people have said about the compatablility.

I've never had White Skirt Tetras, so I guess I wouldn't know, but I've read in my Freshwater Encyclopedia and on a couple of websites that White Skirt Tetras are peaceful community fish. The only Tetras I've ever had were Neon Tetras. They were kept in one tank with Angelfish for a while. They have never nipped at my Angels' fins.

well there not white sqirt tetras there pink black and blue black skirt tetras (dyed :O) but my sister said it would be kool if i have fish like that so i bought them (ill never do that again) but now she ownes im and i bought guppys from petsmart and there doing great! they also accadentaly scooped up 2 fry and a snail so i got em free! and i can give the snails to my friends who has a huge goldfish pond with lots a algea so fish keeping is going good for me!

I've had neon and black neon tetras with no fin nipping trouble. They are fine as long as they are in a group.

Is it a little pointy snail? Because if so, get that out of there ASAP. Those things can reproduce asexually, and will infest your tank. I mean, you can just scoop them out of there manually, but it's a pain. I would recommend not even giving it a chance to reproduce.

no its just a little normal type of shell (well rounded) it doesnt matter anyway it probably climbed out anyway!
