Silly Question

I likely should know the answer to this, but unfortunately I'm up in the air.

I've never used a pasta strainer when rinsing gravel, but then I've never had 25 pounds of it to rinse.

If the pasta strainer has been used before, and has been washed with dish soap, is it okay to use to rinse gravel?

I feel like a dummy for asking, but I really don't feel like rinsing 25 pounds in a bucket.

Thanks, hopefully I'll have an answer soon!

Re: Silly Question

I've used a pasta strainer with very fine holes to rinse by gravel I simply put whatever the amount of gravel would fit inside the pasta strainer and I rinsed it under running tap water. I did so until all of my gravel was rinsed. All the chlorine from the tap water on the gravel will be removed as you add dechlorinator to your tank after you've filled it with water. (I'm assuming you're setting up a new tank.)

Re: Silly Question

Did you have soap in the strainer before?

Re: Silly Question

The strainer I have was used before for food. And it was cleaned in a dishwasher before. But I cleaned it very well before I used it to rinse my tank. My strainer is metal/steel and I don't think there was any soap on it. Just make sure you rinse it very well and dry it.

But if you're afraid it may have soap in it, don't use it.

Re: Silly Question

when we used gravel, we used a mesh strainer that had been washed before and had no problems.

Re: Silly Question

Thanks, I'm just getting ready to fire up the 21 gallon. Getting really excited, heck even Christine seems to be getting into this, it's nice to have her on board
