I need Help With adding new fish

I used to have 3 green tiger barbs and a couple bala sharks but they all died but on green tiger barb so i dicided to wait a bit before getting new fish (you know making sure the water was safe agian) by the time i dicided to get new fish the green tiger barb (Skiper) had growen to full size and when i put new fish in skiper harassed them to the point where they had chunks out of there fins and when they where eating skiper would nip at them and then eat the food i tryed all sorts of different things but they died. What do i do now? how do i add new fish without skipper torrmenting them? or am i able to add more green tiger barbs or will i have to have other fish now

Re: I need Help With adding new fish

Could be a tough one since Skiper is fully grown. Normally, if you keep tigers in groups of at least 6 it helps minimize the nipping. However, your tank is too small for 6 tigers. Another thing to try is to remove Skiper from the tank to a bucket. Totally rearrange the decor inside the tank. Put your new fish in first, and let Skiper back in last. Just be sure to research the adult size of your fish before you buy...you do not want more than 1" of fish per gallon of water.

thx i will try that the next time i go to town (to get supplies) if it does not work i will just buy a bigger tank and let the new ones live in the new tank untill there close to the same size as skiper then i will move him to the bigger tank thankyou

Are you feeding a flake food?

If you are feeding a flake food, the processed flake generally has high phosphates. The excess phosphates crank up algae growth. Suggestion would be to cut back feeding by 25%.

more plants to hide in could help, but hopefully the "time out" will adjust his attitude enough.

how much sunlight does that tank get and are you using a fluorescent bulb or an incandescent bulb? live plants can also help by taking nutrients away from the algae.
