No more cichilids :(

I have a 20G long tank for about a year, lately I've been having too much problems with my cichilids so when I get my next pay check I'm gonna give away my cichilids, instead I'm gonna keep a group of Neon Teras maybe about 15 of them. Now because I kept cichlids for song long therefore I have a rock stocked tank, does Neons like that or they're more comfortable wth the planted tank? Because at the monement I don't have any plants in my tank, matter fact I never did lol...perhaps I should try a planted tank for a change.. so should I get the fish after I wait til all my plants are staple? sorry I know absolutely nothing about plant keeping...so what type of plant do you guys recommand, any suggestions are welcome, thank you

Re: No more cichilids :(

i think neons would like some plants. based on our luck (or lack of it) with plants, we go with the good silk plants now (with the weighted bases). after spending a fortune on bulbs, plants in tubes and plants from the pet store plant tank, i got tired of burning the money and bit the bullet with the move to silk plants like: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113149.

Re: No more cichilids :(

i would definently go for the "silk"(fake) plants, they are so much easier...and much less expensive

Re: No more cichilids :(

Are you sure you want to get rid of your cichlids? Do you know why you've been losing them? Neons are quite delicate, and you may be setting yourself up for more losses. Maybe we can help you figure out what has gone wrong in your tank first?

wow, thanks for your positive feedback lol, I didn't see this one comming...
anyways, uhh...since one of my cichlid just passed away today, I now have 2 electric yellow cichilid and 1 misc. african cichilid alone with 2 babie mollies in the 20G tank, my cichilids are extremly shy, i mean...as shy as they could possibly be, they hide in the tunnel and fake plants for a long period of time, one of them almost never come out, when i drop food in the tank, they get really tense when they go for the food, like they're really scared of something, thats why i have two mollies in the tank swimming around to let them see its safe but it doesn't seem to work =/ maybe i should try some stress coat? any ideas?

Re: No more cichilids :(

I'll try some stress coat this friday, and let you know the outcome lol..
the guy from the fish store told me maybe i should stop feeding them for a few days, they'll eventually forget about their shiness and hunger for food.

are your fish getting to big for the tank? 3c and 1pleco is to much for 20g as adults.
