Hi guys, went to turn my horse out this morning and on the way back i decided to pop into one of my local fish stores. There calling my name was just one male betta, he is now floating in the bag in the tank! Good times!!
However i walked into the house to find 'Little O' the young orange guppy dying at the bottom of his tank. I'm gutted. Bad times!
Little O has gone!!He was on the mend after finrot treatment, i think he survived as long as he could but he lost most of his tail initially. He was always active and went quickly thank god!
I'm not sure if this Betta is male! i'll post pics later, it's my first Betta and very cute! In fact i'm starting to think it is a little girl! i'm gormless today!!!
we're sorry that you lost Little O. .. if your betta's gender is in doubt (males usually have a lot of finnage), look for the white spot in front of the anal fin. ..i thought i knew English, but 'gormless' is a new word to me also.
Fins are quite long for a female, but hey i'm no expert! I hope it survives and gives you pleasure, he looks a great colour!! Goodluck with him!
And i'm sorry to hear abt little O...
i'm not sure from that pic.. did you check your betta for a little white spot on the underside right in front of the anal fin? i guess i'm gormless a lot!
Sorry for the guppy. Enjoy your new betta friend.
I'd have to say that's either a female or one of the more wild bettas, the ones that have less color and shorter fins.

Can't see a white spot near anal fin! Today he/she or it has a white patch on its head, not sure if it's a fungus or a wound! Seems happy enough and has been eating! i'll try to get a pic of it
