19 litre /5g tank(pls ansa!!)

I have 2 of them ( i bought one to keep as quaranitne tank and the store keeper gave me the last one he had free) but wondered do you think i can keep anything in one? Small Tetra school? After losing Pebble and Dash yesterday my MTS has flared up in a bad way!! Not rich enough to buy big tank at the moment!

It would be too small for a female Betta wouldn't it?! Any ideas?

A betta would go well in a 5g, or 3 guppies, 3 neons of 2 ADF's.. maybe a couple dwarf puffers or cory cats.

Thanks for that. I'd love a Betta. What are dwarf puffers? don't think i have ever seen one!

As for Bettas i know that you have then FLbc ( or may i call you Dave?) am i right in thinking they like a gentle flow from the filter?

You're correct. Bettas are most comfortable with gentle water flow, so strong filters should be avoided if possible. Filters with adjustable outputs or gentle streams are best. Sometimes you can play with the water level a bit to minimize the splashing. I believe the preference for stiller waters is because of their air breathing tendencies, and also because they are not always the fastest or strongest of swimmers.

Thank you, these tanks have slow flow fliters so when i was using one the house Guppies whilst their other cycled i used an airpump and stone as the love to surf the bubbles. Would i need one for a betta or would it be too harsh?

Re: 19 litre /5g tank(pls ansa!!)

I've found that our bettas like a good flow from the filter. they'll often have a fun time swimming into the current and letting it push them back until it's too weak to push them any further. An adjustable filter is good, if you find one you like, since you can adjust the flow to suite the betta's needs - Tetra whisper filters have adjustable models even for tanks as small as 2.5g i think if you have them there. It's not necessary though as a filter made for a 5-10g would be good and make a happy betta.

dwarf puffers are very cute little fish with a lot of character (we were just looking at some today at petsmart and wishing we had another tank for them). http://www.dwarfpuffers.com is a good site for them, especially if you decide to get some and you can talk with the other dwarf puffer owners here in the puffers forum to get a headstart on having a tank they'd love.

you can call me dave, but you must pay a toll. every one of our bettas have air stones - it's good for the water and helps keep the surface clear. a lot of times bettas will enjoy playing in the bubbles too. if you can run the air line through a gang valve, i'd do that so that you can adjust the flow to be 'just right'.
