10G, 50L Fish Tank
Hi guys, i'm new here but I have been on the fish wagon for quite a few years. Up until now i have only had goldfish, zebra danios and some coldwater catfish (coldwater tank) in one tank, and if i do say so myself has been a successful tank. But now i've decided to move on to tropicals, about three months ago i bought myself another filter, and a heater i have ben cycling this tank for about two months or more with 2 zebra danios from the other tank i have been monitoring the water, i have decorated the tank with gravel, ornaments, live plants etc. Now i think it is time to add some fish. ( hooray!! ) By the way i have been doing my 'homework' for the last 4 months (around) on tropical fish so i know what to do, also don't forget i have my goldfish and zebra danios which have been pampered with weekly gravel vacuums and a very good diet (live foods added ).
So my question was, what fish do you suggest? I know that it's not a very big tank, but i am taking the danios out!
Thanks in advance!

Re: 10G, 50L Fish Tank
Hello and may I add a welcome to fishlore! A ten gal tank can be a very nice tank with the right fish. I'm sure yours looks great with the decoration you have in it. To make sure you have enough swimming room for your fish, I would like to suggest some of the tetras. The serpae tetra is a very nice copper/orange color an alot of fun to have in a tank. They are friendly and play and chase each other around. They are one of my hardier fish in the community tank that I have. At about 1.5 inches in length they dont take up alot of room. With five of them they would school around with each other and look very nice in a ten gal tank.

Re: 10G, 50L Fish Tank
I've just started a similar thread and got loads of great suggestions. Here's some of them:
dwarf puffers: intelligent, lively, full of character buuuut need 3G each and very aggressive. Will not accept many species as tankmates
mollies: I love mollies. Intelligent, lively and full of character buuut very prone to disease and big waste producers.
upside down catfish: I know nothing about this fish, only that it looks quite cool and was suggested to me. You might want to look it up
ghost shrimp: am definitely getting a couple of those. Apparently they are great cleaners, and have a very light bioload. The only thing is they may get eaten by your fish, depending on what type of fish you're getting.
african dwarf frogs: my boyfriend really wants these for his 10G. Am not a big fan, but if you fancy them, you could give them a try
bettas: you could fit 2 bettas in there, if you put a divider in the tank. The only problem is you're really limited in terms of tankmates then.
otos: in particular zebra otos if you can find them (they look way cooler). They're great brown algae eaters, and have a very small bioload. They like to school, so get at least 3 (I am guilty of only having 2, but that tank is tiny).
fancy guppies: A lot of people like them but they don't do it for me. They're also slightly prone to disease.

Re: 10G, 50L Fish Tank
hello and welcome to fishlore!
the main thing to consider with a small tank is bioload and compatibility. you don't want too must fish waste or fish that get too crowded or don't get along. after those considerations, the sky's the limit on what you put in there. i think what you could do is browse the fish profiles here and/or walk around the fish tanks at your LFS/LPS and pick out fish to look up online.. get the fish that appeals to you and can be happy in the tank. i could recommend dozens of fish that would be good but you know best what fish you'd enjoy having.

Thank you guys for all your great advice, this is my first post and i am amazed (in a good way ) buy how helpful you guys are! I read all your suggestions and everyone appealed to me, but this is what i thought; maybe a betta with a couple of corys.? Tell me what you think, i wasnt sure if betta and corys are compatible or will fit in the tank.?
Thanks again!

Re: 10G, 50L Fish Tank
perhaps i missed it, but how big is the tank? Bettas tend to get along very well with cory cats. At one time, we had 6 in a tank with a Betta and he was not bothered at all.
