Filtration

Hi,

I just got another new 170litre tank...i had a interpet PF4 filter which i set in it...it is very loud and making a clicking noise now for some reason? Any ideas? would an external fluval 305/205 filter be better for the tank?

Thanks

Re: Filtration

I'm not real familiar with that filter but could it have some buildup clogging it partially in the housing? I had a whisper filter that did that and it was partially clogged in a couple spots from gravel dust.

Re: Filtration

I'm not a big fan of internal filters myself as I've heard a lot of people having problems with various ones from different manufacturers. That just my personal opinion from reading as I've never even considered using one after all the bad reviews I've read. And yes there are lots of people that have had good success with them, I just don't know any . I have a friend that swears by Eheim filters for his tanks, and for your size tank the 2234 from Eheim would work well. He tried the Fluval 305 once and said it was very noisy and never seemed to work right, which I've seen a few posts on here with the same type of post. Though for as many people that have had a problem with it, I've seen 5 times as many people respond saying how they love their's. Another option would be a hang on back filter like the Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel from Marineland. A little less expensive then a canister type system, and doesn't require any special running of tubing (not that a canister filter is all that hard to set up). It doesn't quite give the same level of filtration as a canister filter, considering it's intake is right below it's outflow, but on your size tank (about 44 Gal US) it should be more then enough. Just a few options I thought I would toss out there.
