powerhead for tank

i have a 150 penguin wheel in my 29 gallon tank with a airstone if i take out the airstone and put in powerhead would that be to much for my tank size.

Re: powerhead for tank

There's no neet for a powerhead in a fW tank. Unless the fish like the current I would not use it. Is there a reason you want it?

Re: powerhead for tank

I have a power head in my 29 gallon FW tank for 2 reasons...

1) To disperse my C02 into my tank easily
2) Provide extra mechanical / biological filtration

It is in the same corner as my heater and intake for my Aqua Clear 70 and outputs at a 45 degree angle. The current level is set to medium and it does a great job of moving the water through my plants. The fish seem to have found "new" resting spots since I added it but they also seem very happy about the addition.

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Re: powerhead for tank

Yup you have a good reason for it. I personally don't. Dont know if jayfl234 does or not. What type of powerhead do you have?

Re: powerhead for tank

Its old school... LOL!!

It's a "powerhead 201" from back in the day when I had my Oscar and Pleco... I have no idea what it would cross to now a days... The poor thing has been through a turtle for the last 4 or 5 years and is showing battle scars.. But it still works!!

Re: powerhead for tank

I googled and it crosses to a powerhead 20 made by "Aqua Clear" or "Hagen" depending on who you ask. Should be at just abut every pet supply store on the planet and should also be less than 20 bucks.

Re: powerhead for tank

Just put my Powerhead in my tank looks great and i can look at my fake plants i have in my tank and can see that they are moving. Just swaying back and forth just a bit. Guess that means i have good water flow through my tank I put in a Maxi-jet 400 by Marineland. 110 gph so i guess that is ok. I did not install the control tab or tube but i guess i should also get Maxi-Jet sponge prefilter pads 9 that goes on the powerhead to trap more debris. Thanks for everyones help.

Re: powerhead for tank

It depends whats in it and how much current the fish can handle or want. What fish are in it?
