I turned on the lights for my 28gal. tank and found out the filter wasn't workinig, so I took it off the side and looked at it up close in the bathroom. The motor was extremly hot and the motor was only humming. Does anybody know if AquaClear filters sells replacement parts?

Thanks. I am going after school to one of the places that sells the parts and see if they have any in stock. I don't really want to buy a new filter if I don't have to. Now my only question is, why did it have to happen on a school day in the morning?

Most of the time when an Aqua Clear filter motor stops it is due to build up inside the motor case. I normally pull the impeller out and clean it and it's housing really well. Plug it in and give it a little nudge with your finger to get it started if it doesn't start on it's own and your good to go..

The motor runs of electromagnetic current so it going bad is one of those things that just doesn't happen to often..

I had to clean out my proaquatics filter alot. I hated it. It got gunked up everyday. I would go with what gargoyle said and clean it out. If it still dont work then buy a replacement piece.

Odd... Did you try to give the impeller a nudge ?? I am not saying it's impossible just that the way the motor is designed a failure would be extremely hard to accomplish... Have you tried a different impeller ?

I gave it nudge and still nothing. I only have one type of that filter and I'm going to the pet store after school to replace the motor anyways. I was just wondering if that was a common thing to happen or not.

I had that same problem with my whisper filters. So far my marineland bio wheel filter is still running but its only a month old.
