We've had one of our aquariums for 2 years. For the past while, the filter has been very loud and irritating. Kind of a vibrating buzzing sound. It still works fine but the noise in our living room is frustrating. It is a simply top of tank NISSO filter that came with the tank in a set when we bought it. Surely there must be something we can do. I have tried cleaning out the motor with a strong spray of air from an air can. It didn't work. Any suggestions?

Hmm. not familiar wwith the model. I would sugest making sure it sits on/in the tank correctly, clean the impeller with water and any other part of the filter possible. Could need a new impeller but don't know, never heard of the impeller.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I took the filter apart and found the culprit. There's a piece of plastic that obviously was causing the noise and also causing the filter to spin with less power. I simply had to remove a tiny screw and set it back into the piece a wee bit less tightly. Now it works silently and with greater strength!
