Eheim or Fluval Filters

*Hi! *I'm buying a new canaster filter, and would like any recommendations from folks. * I have a 55 gal tank, and was looking at either an Eheim classic 2217, or a Fluval 405. *Both are rated for more than enough gallons of tank, but not for the gph I feel is necessary of at least 500gph. * *

Any suggestions? * Anyone have experience with these filters, and how do you rate them? * Several of my considerations include: *We turn our power off every night, which means there might be problems with priming in some models, and it needs to be quiet!

I would also appreciate if anyone has experience with any other filter they feel is better than those listed, pass it on.

I don't know how they prime, gunnie and Isabella and butterfly run cannister but I know eheim are MUCH better than fluval so go with that, if they are bad at priming a internal filter would work fine by eheim since the bacteria won't die either.

Is it just because of the media used, or is there something else better about the Eheim? You have studied them, just what is your impression on the differences?

The new Eheim Pro III looks good, but an electronic monitor? Sounds like more high tech than I need.

I was looking at the new Fluval FX5 It really has many features that sound nice, and if it is to big for my 50 gal, it could be transferred to a new bigger tank when I get it!

Well eheim makes better products over, better quality, german made and I've read much better reviews on eheim than fluval.

I don't know that much about the models but will look into them tomorrow if I have the chance for you, but ya the latest models have that new high teck computer chip stuff in them

sounds more complicated and break prone if you ask me, especially since it's the first model.

Ya price is expensive and the flow might be too much for a 50 gallon, though i think you need less flow on cannister filters than HOB.

Hope somebody else that has these can chime in with their expierence, I've only researched them a bit and looked and taken them apart at stores, will let you know what I find tomorrow. Have a look at eheim.com and hagen.com-look around on that site to find the products and fluval products

btw-whats the temperature

It is +20 at 6pm in the 'shade'. This whole week has been just spectacular beautiful sunny with little wind, had to drive out to Post Office today and it was above freezing.
My son got back from his first two days of spring break up in the hills on his snowmachine. He was doing lots of hill climbs, turns and jumps. His buddies were filming (DVD cam) and he came back with a small DVD disk that is suppose to play in our computer, but we can't figure it out, any suggestions? It was the disk right out of the camera, and they could view it while it was in the camera. I really am no help, so thought someone as computer savvy as you might have an idea.

Does your computer support dvd's, one of our computers has a special drive for dvd and is it a dvd or one of those mini disc?

ATM, yes the computer is DVD compatible, my son watches his DVD's on it all the time, if the TV is in use and he just has to get his "Sled Necks" fix!

It IS a mini disk that I am talking about. Never tried to use one before, and like I said it's all Greek to me!

Hmmm. I don't know much about them besides they used to come in cereal boxes and you just put them in the cdrom drive and they boot up, sorry can't help you.

hi susitna-flower. if you are still considering buying the fluval fx5 external canister filter then i would highly reccommend it. a great bit of kit. its so quiet i often have to check its still switched on

there is not one thing i can complain about this product as of yet. been running around 4 months now and all good. if you were to buy it i would call hagen up as soon as you received the filter and then your covered for 3 years in case a fault arises. a very happy customer

On some dvd cams, you need to "finalize" the disc. It's a setting in the camcorder. Happened to me once. Friend gave me dvd. It wouldn't play. Sent it back to him. He finalized and sent back to me and all was well. Good luck.
