New filter...ph gone wonky!

Ok well i got a new filter last night...my old one wasn't doing the job i've had my tank for about 3-5 months not really sure!
my fish that i have are listed below:
and so last night i got a new filter i fully set it up!
It's name is something like : Marineland penguin 150 bio-wheel power filter.
so it works great..but when i did my testings..i got my pH to be OVER the like label thing where it says how much it is...so i'm guessing about 8.0-8.4
my fish are great and my ammonia and nitrItes are at 0 so all is good except the ph.
should i be worried? or will it be fine?
sually it's at around 7.2-7.6
Thanks!

Re: New filter...ph gone wonky!

Well, are you running both filters (old and new one) on your tank? If you are running both, it doesn't seem likely that the addition of a new filter caused your pH to go up. If you're running just the new filter, having removed the old filter altogether, I really don't know if that would have an effect on the pH. However, if you removed the old filter containing the nitrobacteria, and hung the new filter on your tank that does not contain the nitrobacteria, that means a new cycle. Don't know if it's possible, but maybe the new cycle is causing pH changes? I've once read that the higher the nitrate, the lower the pH. Perhaps it has something to do with it?

Re: New filter...ph gone wonky!

Have you change the way you are testing your ph? Just for experimentation sake Would you check it again today? The filter shouldn't have anything to do with your ph.

Re: New filter...ph gone wonky!

uhmmm...is there an expiry date on those?
because now it's way below 6.0...probably about 5.5
the fish don't seem at all affected... this is really weird.
