Best Filter Brand- Isabella

A great discussion. Going through the same study for my 42 gallon tall hex.
Read the thread a couple of times, and one question I had, was can you adjust the water flow on all of the canister brands.
I have angles and discus, and I don't want to blow them away. Anybody know if there are adjustments for water flow?
Unfortunately, the LPS staff, by and large, don't have the experience that you folks do.

Re: Best Filter Brand- Isabella

I don't yet have a canister filter, but I've been told that they DO have a flow adjustment. I asked about Rena Filstar XP and Eheim canister filters, but I suppose all canister filters have some kind of a flow adjustment. If you want to know about a specific filter brand, you could ask either here or - if no luck here - on PlantGeek.net. PlantGeek.net's forum has a great board on filtration and they can answer many questions. That's where I got much of the answers I needed with canister filters.

What you can also do - if the flow of the water is too strong - is to get a spraybar (I think most large canister filters come with spraybars). You attach the spraybar to your filter's outflow tube. This distributes the water flow evenly over a larger surface area of a tank, and thus makes the water flow gentler.
