I have a -black sponge
-green sponge
-white sponge
- blue sponge (fine holes)
- blue sponge (less fine holes) (bigger holes)

All I know is that I change the white sponge every week, the others I don't even know when to change!, can someone out there guide this lost fish hobbist!!!!

no it doesn't say on the instructions, it's an internal box filter situated at the back corner of the tank, the order of these sponges from the bottom are as follows:

from bottom - Fine blue > less fine blue > green > black > white....
