Depends on the type of fish, size of tank, and numbers of fish, as well as the decorations/line-of-sight breaking objects in the tank, number of live plants, amount of surface space for good bacteria to grow, etc. There are a lot of factors that go into figuring how many of what type(s) of fish a tank can hold.

I would think about trying to not overstock any tank, because that is ultimately a selfish move. In the wild there may be 10,000 guppies in a very small area, but they have the ability to get away from one another if they want to, whereas in glass boxes (tanks) they can not get away from one another and the more bodies poured into the tank the more the stress level may get to be too much.

(Kinda like at the holidays where more and more people may come to your house and spend more than just a few minutes.. the longer a large crowd of people stay in someone's home the more tense the situation tends to become..)

Its always in the best interest of the fish(es) that our decisions should be based.

I just asked because sometimes people are a little overstocked I was lucky and found somebody to take my extra fish but sometimes people make mistakes cant afford another tank or cant find anyone to take their fish so I was wondering if an extra filter would take out more harmful stuff and at least give the fish a break. Thanks.
