I have a tetra whisper filter and several people have told me that biowheels help a lot.

What exackly is a biowheel and how does it help with filtration. They just look like things that spin when the water goes over them!

I have had a lot of trouble with one of my whisper filters and I can't wait to upgrade. If you can upgrade I would highly suggest it. The other filters such as marineland and aquaclear help with biological filtration a lot more. With these you don't lose half of your good bacteria everytime you change the cartridge. My whisper gets crudded up so fast with gunk from the tank, I have to change it at least once a month. Sometimes every two weeks.

They're great for good bacteria colonies with the huge amount of surface area they give in such a small space. You just want to be sure they keep spinning so the wheel doesn't dry out.
